I turn urban data into better streets
Transport engineer. Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University College Dublin and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Military Institute of Engineering (IME), Brazil.
About
I lead CAMINA as Principal Investigator: an open-source sensor that counts road users with the AI model running on the device, so no images leave the street. It is in laboratory validation and tells apart nine classes:
- pedestrians
- cyclists
- e-scooters
- motorcyclists
- cars
- SUVs
- delivery vans
- buses
- trucks
Before research, I spent five years as a road infrastructure engineer in Brazil, where I co-developed the national high-speed weigh-in-motion standard, with 35 stations deployed with DNIT. I hold a PhD in Transport Systems from the University of Coimbra.
